Up until recently machines learning was restricted to predictive models which were developed to identify and classify pattern patterns within content.<\/span>\u00a0One example of a machine learning issue is to begin with an image or a set of images of adorable cats.<\/span>\u00a0The program will then find patterns in the images and then examine random images to find ones that match the adorable cat-like pattern.<\/span>\u00a0Generative AI is a revolutionary technology.<\/span>\u00a0Instead of just being able to perceive and classify photos of cats machines are capable of creating the image or a text description of a cat upon demand.<\/span><\/p>\n

ChatGPT might be making all the attention now but it’s certainly not the first machine learning model that has made the news.<\/span>\u00a0The OpenAI’s GPT-3 along with Google’s BERT have been launched recently with a lot of excitement.<\/span>\u00a0But prior to ChatGPT which, by all reports is pretty good most times (though it’s still under evaluation), AI chatbots didn’t always receive the most favorable reviews.<\/span>\u00a0GPT-3 has been “by turns super impressive and super disappointing,” said New York Times tech reporter Cade Metz in a video in which he and food journalist Priya Krishna enlisted GPT-3 to create recipes for the\u00a0(rather unfavorable) holiday dinner.<\/span><\/p>\n

The first machine-learning models to use text were developed by humans to categorize various inputs based on labels created by researchers.<\/span>\u00a0An example is an algorithm trained to categorize social media posts as positive or negative.<\/span>\u00a0This kind of training is referred to as supervised learning, since the human being is responsible for “teaching” the model what to do.<\/span><\/p>\n
