5G is the 5G Generation of wireless technology that should provide wireless connectivity for everything.<\/p>\n

It will deliver new levels of performance and efficiency that will empower new user experiences and connect new industrie, it will achieve three main goals:<\/p>\n

1) Speed (ultra-high speed radio access)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

5G will provide download speeds of up to 20 Gbps. If you\u2019re wondering \u201cWhy would anyone ever need that much speed?\u201d\u00a0It\u2019s important to remember that bandwidth is shared by all the users on a cell tower.<\/p>\n

If you are streaming a video at an airport or watching replays of a touchdown in a stadium today, you may experience choppy downloads and a poor viewing experience due to buffering. With 5G, you could theoretically download a 40 gigabyte (GB) 4K Ultra-High-Definition (UHD) movie in less than a minute<\/p>\n

2) Responsiveness (ultra-low latency)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

5G networks will be used to control autonomous cars and high precision, mission-critical industrial devices in real-time. High reliability and availability at all times is a necessity for these use cases. For this to happen safely, end-to-end latency\u00a0\u2014 the time it takes for data or commands to travel across the network\u00a0\u2014 has to be extremely low. Latency in 5G networks will be five times faster than today\u2019s networks\u00a0\u2014 less than 1ms<\/p>\n

3) Scale (massive connectivity)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

By 2020, Gartner conservatively forecasts that there will be more than 21 billion connected devices in the Internet of Things (IoT). Some estimates predict more than 50 billion connected IoT devices by 2020. These devices will have widely varying network requirements\u00a0\u2014<\/p>\n

From environmental sensors that detect agricultural applications in remote locations and send only a few bits every few days or even weeks to very high-precision, low latency devices in nanobiotechnology, autonomous vehicles, and mission-critical industrial environments, which rely on real time communication for potentially lifesaving functions, to highly precise, high-precision devices in nanobiotechnology and other autonomous vehicles.<\/p>\n

5G networks will need to handle the massive scale and\u00a0challenging connectivity requirements for all these diverse devices, sensors, and applications<\/p>\n

5G\u00a0<\/strong>has the potential to enable\u00a0new use\u00a0cases\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0new applications<\/strong>\u00a0for the industry<\/p>\n

It requires to define a flexible architecture aligned with the needs from customers & business perspective.<\/p>\n
