- AMF: Access and Mobility Management Function – ensures part of 4G MME functions
- UPF: User Plane Function – combines user plane functions of 4G SGW-U and PGW-U
- PCF: Policy Control Function – equivalent to PCRF in 4G
- SMF: Session Management Function – combines some of MME, SGW-C and PGW-C control functions.
- UDM: Unified Data Management – equivalent to 4G HSS
