Rogers Communications confirmed the launch of the first commercial 5G standalone network (SA) in Canada. After completing certification of 5G standalone devices and the rollout a national standalone core 5G network, the operator switched on the next-generation service.
The 5G SA core network was built entirely from scratch using the most recent cloud-native technology. This allows for more advanced wireless functions like ultra-low latency and network slicing, as well as expanding Rogers 5G footprint. This network can scale enormously to support unprecedented growth in IoT devices over the next years. 5G RAN slicing allows Rogers to offer new services to customers, including dedicated private networks, public safety apps, and edge compute for AR/VR consumer application.
This launch will allow wireless customers who have 5G SA-capable devices such as the Google Pixel 6 or the Google Pixel 6 Pro, to connect to the 5G SA Network.
Rogers will later onboard major devices and wireless customers with compatible devices to connect to the 5G SA service.
